Father Lopez Catholic High School recently announced that they have named David Báez as its Head Baseball Coach for the 2008-2009 season. Báez, a 1993 graduate of Father Lopez, is currently the school's Development Director.
A four-year starter at Lopez, Báez was named to the All Area Team 2 times and helped Coach Norm Yelverton to back-to-back district titles in 1992-1993. After high school he played his freshman year of college for ABCA Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Anderson at Florida Southern College. He then transferred to Seminole Community College before finishing his baseball career at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama playing for Coach Frank Simms. While at SHC he helped the Badgers to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship and back-to-back appearance in the NAIA Southwest Regional Tournament.
His coaching career has included serving as an instructor at the Pete Dunn Baseball School, and most recently as a volunteer coach for Halifax Academy in Daytona Beach.
